Festival Dance Section 2019

The highly successful dance competition of the Godalming Performing Arts Festival finished on February 22nd. There was a record number of over one thousand entries in the solo classes plus many ensembles. Pupils from no less then twenty-seven dance schools took part. The competition, taking place over five days in the splendid surroundings of the St Catherine’s School Bramley Anniversary Halls, was of a very high standard. The section secretary, Tracey Summerscales reports:

“Superb performances, which were of such a high standard. Marks in all senior sections in the 90’s and a top mark of 94 given in the Groups Section. The professionalism, enthusiasm and support shown by everyone was amazing and made a brilliant atmosphere through the entire week. The adjudicator, Jill Baldock had a lovely manner, enthusiasm and really constructive comments to help every dancer. The festival was such a friendly event and many notes of congratulation have been received for the general running of the festival, the back stage team and to Nanny Ali’s Café which was enjoyed by so many”

Stewarding at St Catherine’s was undertaken by the two Rotary Clubs of Godalming to whom much thanks is due. That a successful event on such a scale was run entirely by local volunteers is a tribute to them all. We look forward with keen anticipation to the remaining sections of the festival being held throughout Godalming from March 5thto 24th
